Battling diabetes and obesity with technology and exercise

Our April program focuses on Medical Device Innovation and the specific challenges this sector presents to entrepreneurs--presented in a unique way!  Speakers include David Erani, MD, a well-known endocrinologist from the Joslin Diabetes Center, and Jamie Hammond, an award-winning producer who produces Second Opinion to help viewers take charge of their health and BizKid$ that educates children on business.

Exercise exhibits and demonstrations before and after the speaker panel include entrepreneurs from:
Crossfit Worcester is dedicated to Forging Primal Fitness. Their programs focus on helping their members understand the what, how and why of their exercise routine for maximum fitness. This TVF program will feature owner and trainer, Paul Cyr, who is also a member of the Worcester SWAT team and military retiree. Plus, Certified Trainer, Ashley Belcher, will show a variety of crossfit exercises.
Developers of the Insanity and P90X workouts that power millions from weekend warriors to professional athletes, Beachbody provides dozens of programs. Their leading expert in New England, Elizabeth Hartkee, has more than 400 Beachbody coaches in her organization, and created her own website-- dropthecookie.com. Elizabeth will be showcasing the new Beachbody program P90X3 with one of the trainers from the video.

Audience members are invited to participate in a short workout after the speaker panel - so bring your exercise gear!

David Erani, MD is a well-known endocrinologist from the Joslin Diabetes Center. David is the Director of Medical Programs Strategic Initiatives. He is a board certified endocrinologist with over 15 years in clinical practice in diverse healthcare delivery settings ranging from large inner-city teaching hospitals to suburban community hospitals and office-based private practice.  See a recent article of his from WebMD.

Jamie Hammond, a Seattle resident, is an Emmy award winning producer. She co-produces the television series, Second Opinion which is in its tenth season on national public television. Second Opinion, educates and encourages viewers to take charge of their health, and is the only medical series that was given CME status by the AMA for medical professionals.

A second area of relevance is her direction in the production of BizKid$, an Emmy Award-winning, syndicated public television series about kids, money, and business. Its purpose is to inform, educate, inspire, and motivate kids of all ages to learn about money, credit, taxes, business, and becoming young entrepreneurs. BizKid$ has featured numerous successful young entrepreneurs. Each episode attracts more than one million viewers.

Jamie produced many other series including coordinating producer for Bill Nye the Science Guy, Master Chef, Cucina Amore, Great Food, Cucina Toscana, World of Wildlife, Cucina Sicilia and others. 

Jose Bohorquez is the co-Founder and CEO of Skulpt, www.skulpt.me  He has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from MIT, Minor in Business Administration from Sloan, worked at GE Healthcare and Bitwave Semiconductor before grad school.

Matt Kelly is a 2014 graduate of Clark University, with a degree in Economics. He is passionate about Entrepreneurship and Healthcare project management for Public Health Organizations. He has won numerous awards for outstanding performance in hospital environments.  Matt is the founder of Health Innovators, a Boston non-profit. Moderator

Roberta Brien is the Vice President of Projects at the Worcester Business Development Corporation. She joined there in 2004 after serving as project manager for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management's Office of Real Estate. She has over 18 years of experience in real estate and project management.
